Geothermal

Geothermal heating and cooling works by utilizing the constant temperature that can be found five feet below the surface. In our area of the country, 53 degrees is the temperature at this depth. During the winter, the circulating water (or refrigerant depending on the type of system you have) absorbs this constant heat and delivers it to the home. In the summer, the reverse is true. The geothermal system takes water warmed by the hot air in your home, delivers it to the cooler earth, and thus cools your home.

How effective your geothermal system works depends on the constancy of the temperature of the earth. Factors that can affect this temperature include, the moisture content of the soil, air temperature, soil type, and plant life at the surface. One the system has been installed you will face the lowest heating and cooling bills of your life. Yes, the installation price is an investment but the Federal government and many states offer tax breaks and other incentives to install environmentally friendly systems like geothermal.
